CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) is an advanced 3D imaging technology that allows doctors to observe detailed jawbone structures, nerve systems, and maxillary sinuses that cannot be seen with conventional 2D X-rays.

Here are the primary advantages of CBCT over traditional 2D X-rays:

  • It provides a 3D volumetric dataset. You can rotate the jaw in every direction and look at “slices” of the tooth from any angle
  • Elimination of Distortion: 2D films often have 25–30% magnification error; CBCT is a 1:1 ratio, meaning what we measure on the screen is exactly what is in your mouth
  • Nerve & Vessel Mapping: CBCT allows us to map the exact path of the Inferior Alveolar Nerve and the location of blood vessels. This virtually eliminates the risk of permanent numbness after surgery
  • Sinus Evaluation: It provides a clear view of the maxillary sinuses, which is critical for “Sinus Lift” procedures or upper-jaw implants
  • CBCT software can automatically calculate bone density (Hounsfield Units) to determine if your jaw is strong enough to hold an implant without a bone graft
