On February 20, 2026, Tam Anh General Hospital officially signed a contract with Mevion Medical Systems (USA). This historic agreement makes Vietnam the second country outside of the United States (following Stanford University Hospital) to own the world’s most advanced proton therapy system.

The transfer of the MEVION S250-FIT technology is valued at nearly 2 trillion VND (~$80 million USD). This milestone ensures that Vietnam now possesses cancer treatment capabilities on par with the world’s leading medical institutions.

The MEVION S250-FIT “Super Machine”: The Peak of 2026 Oncology

FDA-cleared in October 2025, the MEVION S250-FIT is not just a standard radiation device; it is a revolution in oncology, integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) with a highly optimized, compact design.

Key Technological Breakthroughs:

  • AI-Integrated Planning: Features cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence to plan and adjust radiation beams with absolute precision.
  • Compact & Efficient: Unlike older, bulky proton systems, the S250-FIT’s design allows for significantly faster installation and operational delivery.
  • Cell-Level Precision: Targets tumors with extreme accuracy, stopping exactly at the site of the cancer. This protects healthy surrounding tissues and vital organs like the heart, lungs, and brain.
  • Patient-Centric Experience: Reduces radiation time and allows patients to sit or lie down in a more comfortable and reassuring environment.

Investing in the world’s leading proton system is a strategic move to elevate national healthcare and address the economic drain of medical tourism:

  • Reducing Outbound Medical Costs: Every year, Vietnamese citizens spend billions of dollars seeking cancer treatment abroad. This system allows patients to access world-class technology at home for a more reasonable cost.
  • A Regional Oncology Hub: Combined with Tam Anh’s ISO 15189:2012 certified pathology center, this “super machine” positions Vietnam as a top-tier destination for both domestic and international patients.

Dr. Pham Xuan Dũng, Director of the Oncology Center at Tam Anh General Hospital HCMC, stated: “This system opens new doors for patients with tumors in deep or sensitive locations that traditional radiation cannot safely reach.”

Vietnam has officially joined Mevion’s elite global network of high-tech cancer treatment, confirming its status as a “rising star” in the 2026 regional medical landscape.
